Why I have blonde hair and don’t wear a suit
It’s not every day that I do something totally outrageous… As most of you will know I moved into my new home in Islington about 3 months ago and finally got around to throwing my housewarming party last weekend. As a bit of a joke and to get into the mood I dyed my hair blonde, not hair salon blonde but bottle blonde with plenty of orange. I must say I thought it looked terrible and I can honestly tell you so did every person at the party. It was one of those haircuts that you walk down the street and people would stare! Amazing the impact that something so simple as a change in hair colour can have.
Now the interesting thing is not that I dyed my hair or that I had a party but the fact that I DIDN’T dye it back on Monday! I thought I would keep it for a week or two. Now most people would say fine, he wants to keep his hair that colour no problem.
What struck me as interesting is that many friends that don’t really understand property and the lifestyle it brings have commented that ‘What will my clients think? It looks so unprofessional, and they are perfectly correct. It does look unprofessional — to a professional businessperson. It looks like I am having a midlife crisis or something.
But here’s the point.
I am not a professional businessperson, I am a property investor that is focussed on acheiving one thing through my property. A better lifestyle, for myself, my family, my friends and of course, clients just like you. Now this doesn’t mean that I do not conduct myself in a business manner with principles, ethics and discipline. I most certainly do… BUT…
The one thing that my property portfolio has allowed me are a few lifestyle choices. I have long way to go (thats part of being human!). Property has afforded me that ability to make certain choices like wear a ridiculous haircut, like not wear a suit to work each day, like pay for a cleaner to clean up the mess of party.
Now maybe you don’t need to change your hair or throw away the suit but there is something that is the perfect expression of your freedom. Your freedom to make choices that YOU want to make not that society says you should make.
I am actually loving the fact that my hair is putting me outside my comfort zone at the moment.
So if you are reading this and you have booked an appointment to come and see me… well, be ready for my outrageous hair colour.
Live with passion,
Brett Wood
