"What I did before property" by Simon
Simon ShanklandDirector of Portfolios
Hi Everybody!
I thought I would start my blog history by giving you all a bit of a rundown on my background before I started working in property in the UK.
I'm originally from New Zealand and have been living in the UK for the last 5 years. I left home when I was 17yrs old and joined the Air Force. This is where I learned my trade in Physical Education, which I applied for 9 years. After getting out of the military I traveled the world for a couple of years, before settling in the UK. Here, I set up a company training Professional Athletes. I also worked with major health club chains setting up Personal Training systems. This culminated in winning the Health and Fitness Manager of the year Award in 2002/3 and becoming the Health and Fitness Editor for men's health magazine.
After working in the UK industry for 4 years I got disillusioned by the corporate company's growing imbalance between profit and service/expertise. I couldn't fathom why users wouldn't demand guaranteed results (which physiologically are easy to achieve) and why MDs who are profit driven were scared of a skill force that could deliver not only what members wanted, but also drove their profit margins up!

Then I'm sure like you all, the cookie dropped and I concluded that I don't want to work all my life, I wanted to choose when to retire, and I wanted an investment/asset that I could draw a good income from. So to cut a long story short I had a chat with Brett (via a mutual friend) and after a grueling interview process was offered a position with YPC.
I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with you. If you have any questions leave a comment or call me in the office on 0207 812 1255.
Chat to you soon.
Simon.
